A Technicians Hobby
“I came across this circa 2010 cyclocross bike last summer that was going to the landfill if I didn't do something with it. I had done x2 CX events the previous winter on borrowed bikes and although I finished dead last twice still had a blast."
Andy, one of our technicians, gave himself the wee project of fixing up an old Cyclocross bike that was about to get thrown out.
“I came across this circa 2010 cyclocross bike last summer that was going to the landfill if I didn't do something with it. I had done x2 CX events the previous winter on borrowed bikes and although I finished dead last twice still had a blast.
The componentry on it, even though it was old, was quality, so I just removed the big chainring and kept the front mech as a chain guide. The OG paint scheme was pretty gross so I sanded the frame back and attacked it with some army green and added a more comfortable stem. I then finished it off with some new bar tape and my life mantra emblazoned on the top tube: ‘Listen to Slayer’.
Its first outing was a bit of a disaster as the original star ratchet in the BB gave up the ghost (but my legs weren't far behind anyway). But my second race on it was great and I had my best result yet, second to last!!”
Best looking bike on the course Andy!
